Who We Are

Michael Haywood, President

Michael began practicing law in 1982 at the Vancouver firm Ladner Downs. He later joined Canada Life as in-house council advising in the areas of tax and estate planning for their major clients across western Canada.

He founded MHA in 2005 with the belief that such work is best done independently of any one financial institution. His strong brokerage relationships and superior technical knowledge are continually sought after to assist and advise not only clients, but also industry peers in their most complex cases.

Michael and his wife, Heather, reside in Vancouver, British Columbia. Michael is a frequent and popular industry speaker across Canada.

Nicole Hodgson, Vice President

Nicole began her career in financial services in 1998. She has held the position of National Manager, Strategic Alliances for a large international investment management firm where she was responsible for managing relationships with Canada’s major insurers. Previous to that role, Nicole was Regional Vice President with Manulife Financial where she was responsible for the servicing and distribution of investment products. Nicole joined MHA 2010 as Vice President and works with business families and professionals.

Nicole holds a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Western Ontario. She has completed the Canadian Securities Course, the Life License Qualification Program, and the Certified Senior Advisor (CSA) Program. She resides in Vancouver and enjoys the outdoors, golfing, running, and cooking.

David Haywood, GBA

David began his career in financial services in 2002. David’s first years were spent working for a well established financial planning firm, gaining valuable experience in the employee benefits field and developing his ability to provide high quality customer service.

David has since joined MHA as the employee benefits specialist. He has attained his Group Benefits Analyst (GBA) designation and is continuing on in his studies towards the CEBS, the most senior employee benefit designation available.

David’s experience and track record in the benefits area has proven to be a valuable asset to clients.

David resides in Vancouver with his wife Keri. He has volunteered to assist the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation and more recently has taken on a leadership role for Bridging the Gap, a program designed to feed and help Vancouver’s homeless.

Associates

George Schroeder

George is an independent broker with over 25 years of Life Insurance experience. George’s reputation for hard work, integrity and service has earned him a widespread reputation. His clients have included some of the most successful business people in Canada.

In August of 1984 George began his Financial Services Industry career and the following year he qualified for the Million Dollar Round table, the Life Insurance Industry’s most prestigious organization. The next year, 1986, George achieved Court of the Table, a recognition reserved for the best agents in the industry.

George specializes in a complete financial needs analysis program. George founds his clients’ objectives and goals on three financial cornerstones: protection, accumulation, and retirement.

Brian McEvoy, RHU

Brian has been in the insurance business for over 20 years and brings many years of experience to each of his clients. Through his company, McEvoy Insurance Services Ltd., he continues a longstanding family business began by his father. Brian’s passion is helping people organize their financial affairs and estate planning needs. Brian is committed to providing solutions to financial and estate planning needs through high-quality, personalized customer service and product selection so that his clients can achieve and maintain a peace of mind for the future.

Keith Leech, CFP, CLU, ChFC, RHU

Keith is widely regarded as one of Canada’s most knowledgeable insurance brokers in the areas of Critical Illness, Disability, and Long Term Care planning. Keith was Vice President of one of Canada's largest managing general agencies, where he consulted to brokers on insurance products and solutions for their clients. Previously, Keith managed the Individual Disability Product Line in Vancouver for a major insurer. He also worked in Sales Management focusing on recruiting and developing new advisors.

Keith is a frequently sought after consultant for clients, brokers and companies across North America. Keith has been one of Canada's representatives on numerous occasions at the World Critical Illness Conference, has spoken to the U.S. National Association of Critical Illness, and has consulted to CIBG - the exclusive providers of Critical Illness to the NFL Coaches Association.

Jonathan Unger

Jonathan Unger is the newest member of our team. Jonathan started his career in the hospitality industry, where he developed a strong belief in exceeding expectations and providing exceptional service to clients. Switching gears, he began his financial services career as a supplemental benefits advisor for AIL Canada, working with major unions (BC Government and Service Employees, Teamsters and CUPE) and their members throughout British Columbia. Growing up in Vancouver, Jonathan has a real passion for our beautiful land and can often be found exploring by mountain bike or snowboard.
